Southern Folger's 2011 Award of Excellence to Hampden County Sheriff's Department and Correctional Center - Upholding Their Motto of "Strength Reinforced with Decency."

Hampden County Sheriff’s Department in Ludlow, Massachusetts, is the 2011 recipient of Southern Folger’s Award of Excellence.  Don Halloran, President of Southern Folger,  presented a plaque in honor of this accomplishment to Sheriff Michael J. Ashe.  This annual award is presented to correctional facilities that have gone above and beyond in excellence of operations, personnel, maintenance and security, as noticed by Southern Folger’s sales and service staff, who visit hundreds of facilities every year.

Hampden County’s motto is “Strength Reinforced with Decency.”  The facility’s orderly operation and safe, secure environment are especially evident when visiting the facility.  The Department has excelled, even with a large turnover rate of their current 1600 individuals in various levels of security from pre-trial to sentenced.  Sheriff Ashe also initiated improvements to their disciplinary units through input from a cross-functional team, to better match their overall philosophy of a positive and productive environment for their inmates.  More information on this program, as well as their community's “Text-A-Tip” initiative, can be found on their website http://www.hcsdmass.org.
